A common challenge with delegation is that it often seems like delegating to someone else takes more work than just doing it yourself. This is especially true of task-level delegation, but that’s but one of three levels of delegation.

In many cases, it is more work, and to understand why it’s helpful to break delegation into three levels:

1. Task-level delegation. This level is focused on discrete tasks such as making a phone call, sending an email, or ordering a certain item.
